Old pals Phil Asher and the Mighty Zaf have decided to reignite their occasional '80s Edits series after a two-year break, and we couldn't be more pleased. The hush-hush label's other releases were filled with must-have revisions of 1980s jazz-funk, electrofunk and soul gems, and their latest missive contains some equally as impressive material. Our pick of a very strong bunch is A-side 'Sounds & Reasons', a typically on-point revision of punchy, cheery and summery P-funk era cut rich in Teena Marie style vocals, squelchy bass and Latin-influenced horns. Elsewhere, 'Isale Eko' is a surging revision of a hot-to-trot Afro-boogie obscurity, while 'Boss Groove' is a heavyweight tweak of a hustling '80s disco-boogie number.
