Hooded Smock Forest Green
Yarmouth Stores have manufactured oilskin waterproof clothing for well over 100 years, originally the go to workwear for fishermen, the merchant navy, agricultural workers and miners. Oilskin dressing was applied by hand to calico cotton, to guarantee “absolute waterproofedness.”
It’s documented that in 1953 the factory would produce around 2000 oilskin garments per week.
The pattern for the hooded smock is taken directly from their archive – recreated with a modern lightweight wax not available when it was originally created but perfectly suited. Advantages of the modern fabric are that it’s hand washable with a wonderful soft tumbled finish and a gently aged appearance. The patina will develop over time and just get better and better.
The Hooded Smock is unlined, with an internal draw cord, and a sturdy brass zip. It has generous deep welt pockets with a buttoned storm flap, and a three piece hood.
